NDI output

NDI carries a canvas over ordinary gigabit Ethernet to anything on the network that speaks it.

Setting it up

  1. Add an output, set its type to NDI, and name it for what it feeds — Wall L, not Output 1. You will read this name at 2am.
  2. Set the canvas region this output carries.
  3. Enable it, then set it live.

Network reality

NDI is bandwidth-hungry. A 1080p60 stream runs around 125 Mbps; several of them saturate a gigabit link quickly. Put video on its own switch and its own VLAN, use wired connections only, and disable Wi-Fi on the sending Mac so macOS cannot helpfully move the stream mid-show.

If receivers cannot find the stream

NDI discovery uses mDNS, which most managed switches block by default and which does not cross subnets. If sender and receiver are on different subnets, configure an NDI discovery server — discovery is the failure, not the video.
